The Mindanao State Univerity

MSU was established in Marawi City on September 1, 1961 to serve as a social and educational laboratory for national integration. MSU is also the only university directly charged by the government to advance the cause of national unity and actively pursue integration through education.

Accomplishments

From one-campus, robust and active university in Marawi, MSU has grown to a multi-campus university of eight autonomous campuses located at MSU-IIT in Iligan City, MSU-TCTO in Tawi-Tawi, MSU-Naawan in Misamis Oriental, MSU-Maguindanao, MSU-General Santos, MSU-Sulu in Jolo, MSU-Buug in Zamboanga Sibugay, and MSU-Maigo in Lanao del Norte. Emerging campuses are those in Zamboanga del Norte and Palawan. As a whole, the University is rated No. 8 in 2023 in evaluation as Ten Best Universities in the Philippines, the only one so honored in Mindanao, Sulu and Palawan; it is likewise the youngest of universities so awarded.

CNN: MINDANAO STATE UNIVERSITY (MSU) Is Ranked No. 8 in Best Universities in the Philippines. The University of the Philippines Diliman tops EduRank’s list of the Best 100 Universities in the Philippines.

The list was based on research outputs, non-academic prominence, and alumni influence. MSU is the youngest University of the Best Universities — very much younger. And the only one situated in Mindanao. MSU was founded in 1961 and started classes in 1962. Its establishment and nurturing, through summits and nadirs of growing pains, is an incomparable epic in education. In 62 short years, MSU has arrived, to say the least, and is now counted as one of the Best in the Philippines — undoubtedly, the Best in Minsupala.

MSU is not just a University. It is a bold experiment in education, with its concomitant, challenging role as social laboratory for cultural integration, religious interaction, development and peace in the region.
