What is Budhi Corporation
BUDHI stands for Beloved University Development and Heritage Initiatives. It aims to develop an endowment fund of One Hundred Million Pesos (P100,000,000 or $2,000,000) over a period of five (5) years.
BUDHI is a non-profit organization duly registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of the Philippines. It was founded in 2023 by Ten alumni of the Mindanao State University (MSU) with burning desires to assist deserving students and faculty of the said University to accomplish their life’s mission in the profession.
BUDHI will seek donations from alumni of MSU and other sources.
What motivated the Founding of BUDHI
Pioneering class of MSU Main Campus in 1962 consisted of 282 students and 12 faculty members.
Since then, it has grown to a multi-campus supra-regional university system, serving over 69,000 students in all levels with nearly 3,100 faculty members.
In spite of the various types of scholarships granted by MSU Main Campus from 1962 to 2022, many indigent students apparently remain in need of financial support. The faculty likewise need support to stay in the University and not pirated by other universities and the private sector.
The Alumni Founders of BUDHI felt the need and incorporated Budhi as a non-profit organization to conveniently receive, manage and harness funds from fellow alumni and other sources to support the academic community, students and faculty.
BUDHI Guiding Principles
Investment income generated by the Endowment Fund shall be spent in accordance with Budhi’s guiding principles stated in its Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws, and Financial Policies and Procedures Manual.
BUDHI will use the investment income to provide scholarships to poor, deserving students; faculty incentives for retention; students thesis support; and modest R&D for faculty of Mindanao State University.
BUDHI envisions to raise One hundred million pesos (P 100 million) or some Two million dollars ($ 2 million) in the years 2024 to 2029.
What is MSU and what are its accomplishments
MSU was established in Marawi City on September 1, 1961 to serve as a social and educational laboratory for national integration. MSU is also the only university directly charged by the government to advance the cause of national unity and actively pursue integration through education.
From one-campus, robust and active university in Marawi, MSU has grown to a multi-campus university of eight autonomous campuses located at MSU-IIT in Iligan City, MSU-TCTO in Tawi-Tawi, MSU-Naawan in Misamis Oriental, MSU-Maguindanao, MSU-General Santos, MSU-Sulu in Jolo, MSU-Buug in Zamboanga Sibugay, and MSU-Maigo in Lanao del Norte. Emerging campuses are those in Zamboanga del Norte and Palawan.
As a whole, the University is rated No. 8 in 2023 in evaluation as Ten Best Universities in the Philippines, the only one so honored in Mindanao, Sulu and Palawan; it is likewise the youngest of universities so awarded.
